Salary: $40,000-$43,000 dependent on qualification

Required Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS degree with archival concentration. Knowledge of archival principles and practices. Demonstrated ability to work with faculty and donors. One year relevant experience. Ability to perform physical activities associated with archival environments.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of MARC-AMC cataloging, EAD, and web-building skills.

Responsibilities & Requirements: Archivist:
Stony Brook Library seeks and experienced archivist to lead its manuscripts and university archives program. Oversees acquisition, arrangement and description of collections for OPAC and web display. Responsible for developing and promoting the use of archival collections and providing reference service. Current collection initiative include environmental policy, barcode technology, and Long Island history. Initiates and manages outreach activities. Works with faculty to develop archival collections ions related to their teaching and research. Works with campus offices and maintains the university archive documenting the history and cultural life of the university. Collaborates on and develops digital projects relating to the University Archives. Works with Cataloging Department in providing access to archival collections in ALEPH 500 ILS and with Preservation department to set goals and objectives for the preservation of archival collections. Supervises project archivist for Environmental Defense collection and students assisting with the processing of the barcode collection. Participates in setting policy for the University Archives and assists head of Special Collections in operation of reading room and reference service. Reports to Head, Special Collections.
