| dcterms.abstract | Winky Dink screens, the original Mouseketeers, unlocked house doors, dozens of relatives eating and arguing at family circle meetings, children playing ball outside morning till night, with no such thing as a scheduled playdate. And throughout it all, every adult smokes. All of that describes what it was like for me growing up in Queens in the 1950s and 60s, in a loving Jewish family. When my mother dies unexpectedly at almost 91--yes, unexpectedly, the last one of her generation on both sides, I find myself overcome with grief and loneliness for her and the rest of them. Now where do I go for guidance, inspiration, and unconditional love? My journey takes me to many places, both during and before my lifetime, back and forth over 70, well really, 115 years. But it's the intuitive medium I consult, on two occasions, who offers me unexpected help and comfort. He doesn't just connect me with the " spirits," he connects me to myself. When you're so lost, how do you get found? | |
