| dcterms.abstract | The following script is a fictional account of how a young Iraqi man becomes an Arabic interpreter for a Marine infantry platoon, drawn largely from the writer's personal experience as an infantry officer in Iraq from 2007- 2008 in Al Anbar Province. Mustafa Abbas, aka Roy, the nephew and adopted son of a powerful tribal leader, Sheik Khamis, is cast onto the streets after it's discovered that he assisted Sheik Khamis' rival, Lieutenant Fallon, a Marine infantry officer whose interpreter was assassinated by a roadside bomb. Mustafa is enlisted by Fallon while the lieutenant awaits a replace interpreter but as their trust grows, Fallon begins to rely on Mustafa more and more, pulling Mustafa away from his best friend, Ali, and his beloved sister Fatima, who remains under the treacherous and bloodthirsty hand of their lunatical uncle. | |
