and means of waste disposal on Long Island are seven-fold: 1) To unify various data sets generated over the years on and about Long Island municipal solid waste (MSW) with the end of creating a more useful, precise, and accurate estimate of Long
Island MSW generation; 2) To examine any changes in waste generation from 1986 to
the present; 3) To quantify changes in disposal methodologies, such as recycling, landfilling, incineration, and off-Island transportation; 4) To identify variations in generation municipalities, and, if possible, explain sources of the variations; rates between the source or 5) To identify areas where statistical consistency in this field might be emphasized or enhanced; 6) To provide assistance in long-range municipal planning, and aid in efforts to either meet, mold, or re-define State and Federal objectives; and, 7) To establish the basis for a long-term, useful time series on solid waste on Long Island. . ." | en_US |

| dcterms.provenance | The works contained within this collection are the final products of a joint collaboration between the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SOMAS); the MASIC Library and the Preservation Department. The project was conducted during the winter through summer 2013 academic semesters, and its focus was to convert older, archival records generated by SOMAS and maintained within the University Libraries to accessible, electronic resources in support of research and learning. All works are based on the original, analog (paper) records as released by SOMAS, except where born digital only records have been loaded to the system. All works have been preserved for historic purposes, please see the Marine and Atmospheric Sciences Library for assistance in viewing the analog originals upon which this project is based. | en_US |
