Recipe titles are: Appetizers, Pastries and Desserts; Soups; Seafood; Poultry; Meat; Vegetables; Eggs; and Rice and Noodle Dishes. Before the recipes there is a foreword by Mary Margaret McBride and a preface by Poppy Cannon. Five chapters are titled: Chinese Food and Culture; Chinese Food Comes to America; Americans in Chinatown; Bringing China into Your Home; and Serving Chinese. There are also Seven pages are about tea. The index lists food by category. A few black and white line drawings accompany the text, all by Mabel Wong Lilienstein, who illustrated this volume. The author is third generation owner of the oldest Chinese restaurant in New York City at Mott and Pell Streets.
